Old Mission Peninsula, MI
Mari Vineyards is a unique project because 16,000 square feet of the approximately 22,000 square feet structure are below ground. The below ground space is dedicated to processing and wine making, while the above ground space is a tasting room with sweeping views of the East Arm of Grand Traverse Bay. One of the client’s goals was to create a carbon neutral site, so many modern construction techniques were incorporated into the design including geothermal insulation, bio-fuel furnaces and an option for solar power in the future. Extensive permitting was needed for this project including MDEQ permits and a Winery/Chateau Special Use Permit in the Agriculture District.
